History
Through four generations of funeral service professionals, Lobban Funeral Home has been serving Alderson and the Greenbrier Valley since 1900. We are honored to be a part of the rich history of this community and plan to be a part of it for many years to come.
Our Story began when Captain John Lobban founded his businesses with his two sons, Floyd and John under the name of the Lobban Brothers, a furniture store and Funeral establishment. This was an interesting combination of businesses to say the least. In 1912, Floyd G. Lobban purchased the interest of the funeral home from his siblings and operated it until his death in 1937. After his death, his wife continued to operate the business with her sons, Floyd G., Robert B., and Charles L. Lobban. In 1942, Floyd G. Lobban, Jr. purchased the interest furniture store from his brother Charles L. Lobban, Sr. and Charles established Lobban Funeral Home on South Monroe Street where it operates today.
Floyd G. Lobban served from 1900 until 1937. He was accompanied in work by his wife who was active in the business and community until she passed away on September 28, 1943.
Charles L. Lobban, Sr., was a second generation licensed funeral director. Charles took over primary management of the company in the early 1940's and was very active in community until his death in 1972.
Charles L. Lobban, Jr. was a third generation licensed funeral director and served from 1972 to 1996 until he passed away. Charles had made many capital improvements to the facilities and was very active in the community and civic organizations. His wife Karen, who remains active in the business serves as funeral attendant and has previously overseen the operations for the last 22 plus years, is also active in several organizations.
The staff at Lobban Funeral Home serves our families with the compassion and dignity that each deserves at such trying times.
